“I want to go on living even after my death! And therefore I am grateful to God for giving me this gift, this possibility of developing myself and of writing, of expressing all that is in me. I can shake off everything if I write; my sorrow disappears, my courage is reborn.” Anne Frank (Jewish-German diarist, 1929-1945), Diary, 4 April 1944.

“I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness; I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too. I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again.” Ibid., 15 July 1944.

I believe in the sun even if I don’t see it.
I believe in love even when I don’t feel it.
I believe in God even when He remains silent.

Boris Saktsier, Janusz Korczak and the Orphans, bronze, 1978

In 1932, Andreas Paul Weber's "March into the Grave" is published in Hitler: A German Doom, a pamphlet conceived by Ernst Niekisch.[4] An alternative title for that paradoxical image could be Gott mit Uns. The Nazis themselves adored this expression to the point of having it engraved on the buckle of their belts. Nevertheless, the ultimate origin of such an expression is to be found in the Hebrew language and its unquestionable messianic nature, for Immanuel means “God with us.”[5]
