A highly complex structure by Jørn Utzon, 1959-73 (completed by Hall, Todd and Littlemore), The Sydney Opera House is one of the world's most fascinating landmarks. As a structure, it has massive, interlocking reinforced concrete shells. Its expressive roof design is sometimes said to have come to achitect Utson while peeling an orange. However, such sail-like roofs make a grand design gesture.
